Spied: India-bound 2017 Toyota Corolla Altis facelift in Taiwan
The 2017 Toyota Corolla Altis has been seen undisguised in Taiwan a month ahead of its launch there. Officially unveiled in March, the facelift is a cosmetic upgrade. On the front, the Corolla uses a restyled bumper, LED lights which also incorporate DRLs and a new front grill. The grill retains the chrome strip that runs around the logo, while the front bumper gets a little wider and incorporates vertical slats on the outer-side. The central air-dam design is carried on to the outer edges of the bumper, incorporating the fog lamps as well. The headlights have been redesigned to give the front a more aggressive and sleeker look. In the image below, the DRLs are seen running under the single projector lamp set-up.
The rear of the Toyota Corolla Atis largely remains the same. The lights get the LED treatment just like the front and the chrome strip above the number plate is now a flat, thin strip which runs the length of the plate, meeting the tail lights on either side. The 1.8 VVT-i petrol engine which outputs 140PS of power and 173Nm of torque at 4,000rpm and 1.4 D-4D diesel engine putting out 88PS and 205Nm of toque between 1,800-2,800rpm are expected to continue with the facelift for the Indian market. Both engine variants will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the petrol model will also get the option of a 7-speed automatic gearbox. Expect Toyota to slightly tune the engines for slightly better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.
On the inside, the refreshed centre console now comes equipped with the new Touch 2 multimedia system which comes with navigation as standard. The HVAC controls have been given a much cleaner look, with thin chrome buttons replacing the chunky plastic ones as on the predecessor. The dial to adjust the temperature has also been done away with, to give the console a much cleaner look.
The updated Altis will also feature a new set of alloy wheels, and will be offered in three new exterior colours Platinum Bronze, Tokyo Red and Earth Bronze, alongside the current palette. In India, the Corolla Altis facelift is expected to be launched in early-2017.
