Shopping for a hatch? Gone are the times you had to rush to the nearest dealer to book your car. Tata just announced the opening of online bookings for its much-awaited all-new Bolt, which happens to be the second vehicle in line under the company's Horizonext campaign.

We came back quite impressed by the Bolt when we previewed the Tata hatch a few months back. Bolt does have the potential to do well. The Zest has made it to the list of top selling cars in recent months, its sibling seems to be headed in a similar direction. The car will be available in either petrol or diesel. It will also feature the 1.2L turbocharged multi-point fuel injection (MPFi) engine, which Tata calls Revotron making 90PS of power and peak torque of 140Nm. The diesel variant comes with a 75PS engine, delivering 190Nm of torque.

Bolt features an ABS system by Bosch and corner stability control (CSC), adding to the safety feature list. Tata claims that the Bolt features a design culmination of best ideas from the three Tata Motors design studios – Pune (India), Coventry (UK), and Turin (Italy). During our first drive we thought that the car looks smart and has segment first features like the Harman touchscreen infotainment with Map My India navigation system. We think that a lot of drawbacks from the car's predecessors have been addressed and it should appeal to the aspiring mid-size hatchback owners more than enthusiasts. Customers can book the car by making a payment of Rs. 11,000 on Tata's booking website.
