On July 20, the Transport Minister of Maharashtra, Diwakar Raote noticed two constables astride a motorcycle without a helmet. He immediately asked them to pull over and reprimanded them for breaking the law. He then summoned a traffic constable and told him to fine the two offenders.

While we appreciate the on-the-spot action by the minister, we hope that authorities concernedensure that the Supreme Court's directive is imposed with the strictness that it deserves. This incident is bound to send out a strong message to the police force and other road users.
