Upcoming hatchbacks expected to launch in India by end of 2020

The whole world is going through a critical time with the Coronavirus pandemic affecting everyone from all walks of life. This includes the automobile industry as well, both the manufacturers and the ancillary suppliers. However, we expect the situation to improve in the coming months. And if it does indeed, we will see automobile manufacturers gear up with their upcoming offerings to hit the streets of India. Here's a quick look at the upcoming hatchbacks in India

 New-gen Hyundai i20

When? July 2020

Est. Price: Rs 7-11 lakh

In its third-gen, the i20 fights back with fully-digital instrumentation, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment, connected car tech and the option of the one-litre turbo petrol and 7-speed DCT, alongside a new 1.5-litre diesel. Styling is more Teutonic than Italian this time around, with a lower front end, sharper angles and creases taking the place of the current car's swooping lines.

Honda Jazz BS6

When? May 2020

Est. Price: Rs. 6-10 lakh

The updated Jazz will be offered in both petrol and diesel engines. We believe Honda could do a digital launch of the Jazz BSVI by revealing the prices shortly. The updated hatch will lock horns with the Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo. In terms of powertrain, Honda will equip the Jazz with a BSVI compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine that presently makes 90PS and 110 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. There is also the optional CVT unit that is offered with the petrol engine. The diesel, on the other hand, will be the 1.5-litre BSVI that produces 100PS and generates 200 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission

Maruti Suzuki XL5

When? Nov 2020

Est. price: 6.5 lakh

Following in the same vein as the XL6, Maruti Suzuki is thought to be working on a more upmarket version of the WagonR. This will be sold through the Nexa sales and service channel, and like the XL6, should come with a new face, an SUV-inspired look, and a stronger feature set.

Hyundai Nios N-Line

When? End 2020

Est. price: Rs 8.0-8.5 lakh

This hot hatch version of the Nios debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt show, where it was seen with more aggressive styling bits on the outside and new interior trim, all of it accented by red highlights. The Nios N-Line also gets a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol with 99PS and 172Nm as an option.
