Upcoming Maruti Suzuki WagonR seven-seater spotted testing
A video on the internet has caught a new version of what seems to be an elongated version of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. This could be a prototype of the three-row version of the WagonR that is expected to be sold via the Nexa sales channel.
Colloquially termed the XL5, this could follow the same formula set by the Ertiga-derived XL6. Expected is a cabin finished in more upmarket materials, a pair of captain's chairs in the second-row and third-row jump seats. There should also be more creature comforts like seen on other Nexa cars like auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control, auto-dimming mirrors and so on.
Externally, this version could come with a new fascia, with darker elements and full-LED headlamps. The rear section could also see some more plastic cladding and different lighting. A new set of dark alloys are visible in these images. The elongated rear section is also apparent.
The seven-seater WagonR is not expected to be mechanically different from the standard WagonR. We expect to see the K12B 1.2-litre petrol motor here with 83PS and 113Nm, mated to a five-speed manual or an AMT.
We expect this version of the WagonR to debut in India by either late this year or early next year, depending on the delays caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The prices of the WagonR equipped with the 1.2-litre engine start from Rs 4.5 lakh, ex-showroom. We expect this new version to charge a Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 premium.
