Video worth watching: 22-time World Motorcycle Trials champion Toni Bou in action
Toni Bou has dominated the sport of motorcycle trials like no one's business. Not one, two, or three, Bou has won the FIM World Motorcycle Trials championship and the World Indoor Motorcycle Trials Championship for 11 years in a row. That translates to 22 successive titles! Firstly, this sort of dominance is unrivalled in the world of motorsport. Second, while it may not be as well-known a sport as MotoGP or WSBK, the risk involved here is in a league of its own. Trials riding essentially features a large obstacle course and the competitors must ride their purpose-built trials bike through the course in a set time. Forget the time, just finishing a FIM World Motorcycle Trials course can be a challenge, when every time you put your foot down to balance the bike is charged with a penalty.
And in comes Bou, who makes it look all too easy. The video we have here is a compilation of some of Bou's practice runs through various courses and natural obstacles over the years. There are many that take the road less travelled. But Bou is one of the few in the world that can leap his motorcycle up from one rock to another, and even up a sheer waterfall, balancing it on one wheel on a tree stub just two feet in diameter and about a dozen feet off the ground. The amount of practice and dedication that it takes to do this is commendable in itself. Now, without further ado, here is Toni Bou in action:
