2013 Detroit Auto Show: 2014 Audi RS7
The A7's evil cousin, the RS7 has just been unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Featuring a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine which has 560PS, Audi claims that the RS7 will breach the 0-100kmph mark in just under four seconds thanks to an 8-speed auto transmission and all-wheel drive and go on to reach an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. Those wanting more pizzaz can get the speed limiter removed by ordering the dynamic package plus, the speed climbing all the way up to 305kmph. All this while delivering fuel economy a shade under 10kmpl in the US cycle. Audi says that the RS7 has cylinder-on-demand technology which when not required (cruising or at low speeds), closes the valves of up to four cylinders. The moment the driver needs urgent acceleration, the engine is back to its eight-cylinder ways.
Other than the engine and performance, how different does it look from the standard A7? For starters, there are 20-inch forged lightweight wheels with a seven-spoke design (21-inch are optional), the brakes have been uprated to handle the extra power and come with black painted calipers and new exterior paint schemes.
