2014 MotoGP: Marquez wins at Indianapolis

11 Aug 2014 / 0

Ten wins of the first ten races of the 2014 season of MotoGP. That’s Marc Marquez for you. The 21-year old rider has now equalled Giacomo Agostini’s record of winning the first ten races of the season, a record that Ago had set way back in 1970. Along the way he has also matched Mick Doohan’s record of 10 successive race wins in a season, a record that Doohan set in 1997 (and subsequently broke himself that very season when he won 12 races that year). There are eight more races to go in the 2014 season, and now all the talk is about whether or not Magic Marc can make it eighteen wins of eighteen races. Well, he’s declared that the task won’t be easy. But he’s managed to make it look rather easy thus far!

The Indianapolis round of MotoGP started with Marquez on pole. And what a start it was! Marquez might not have managed to retain his position at the front of the grid, with Valentino Rossi taking track position for the first ten laps. But then it was time for Marquez’s typical magic. He defended second place from Jorge Lorenzo, then got past Lorenzo once overtaken, and managed to make his way past Rossi too on the very same move.

Then it was about maintaining his lead over the chasing Yamahas, with Jorge Lorenzo crossing the line second 1.8 seconds behind him, while Rossi came home third.
