2015 Geneva Motor Show: Rolls-Royce Serenity unveiled
Rolls Royce showed a new bespoke version of their most luxurious offering called the Serenity Phantom at the Geneva Auto Show 2015. The inspiration for this car comes from the Orient, particularly from Japanese royalty and the fine silk robes they favoured. As a result, silk plays a major role in the interior of this car and the company imports an entire roll of the finest stuff, that ironically comes from the town of Suzhou in China.
The roll is then transported to one of the oldest British mills in Essex where it is hand woven into just 10 metres of fabric - the right amount for the interior of a single Serenity. The process takes two days. Numerous threads are painstakingly blended (140 threads per square centimetre) to result in a fabric in a lustrous Smoke Green shade. This fabric is then shipped to London where the intricate blossom motiff is painted on in a detailed petal-by-petal process that takes 600 hours to complete.
Then there's the rare Smoked Cherrywood that is used for the rear seat valances or the Arctic White leather that's used for the front seats. Smoked Cherrywood is also used in other areas like the dashboard, doors and rear console but is complemented by touches of bamboo inlay.
Mother of Pearl is used in detailed areas like the faces of the clock and also the driver's instrument dials. The exterior Mother of Pearl paint is the most expensive one-off paint that Rolls Royce has ever conceived. It is applied in a three-stage pearl effect and is then hand polished for 12 hours to produce a stunning sheen.
Mechanically the car remains the same with a direct injection V12 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic. Rolls Royce has not announced prices but you can expect them to be just about as astronomical as it gets.
