Lexus unveiled the all-new LC 500 at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show. It is a 2+2 coupe production model based on the LF-LC Concept that debuted at the 2012 show. The Lexus LC 500 carries over the concept's overall design and technology features.

The Lexus LC 500 is powered by the same naturally aspirated 5-litre V8 that also does duty in the RC F and GS F. It generates 473PS and 527Nm of torque that gets sent to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Lexus claims that despite being a single-clutch unit, it's shift times rival those of a dual-clutch transmission. Lexus claims an acceleration time of 0-96kph in under 4.5 seconds. It gets an active exhaust system that opens baffles in Sport mode allowing for an aggressive sounding note. Even in Normal mode the exhaust baffles open above 3500 rpm.

The new Lexus LC 500 model shares many of the key styling elements from the LF-LC's design. The front fascia gets a distinctive grille with a new 3D mesh design and has chrome garnishing on all three sides. The "L"-shaped daytime running lights rest below a new triple LED headlamp unit. The swept back roofline leads you to the slim, multi-layered tail lamps which convey a unique lighting effect. A rear diffuser and active spoiler help improve aerodynamic efficiency.

The LC 500 is the first to get Lexus's new rear-wheel-drive luxury platform which is part of the new corporate global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA-L). It uses lightweight high-strength steel and aluminum suspension components to reduce weight and increase structural rigidity. It gets an impressive front/rear weight distribution of 52/48.

Lexus says that its engineers have created an engaging cabin for the driver by focusing on finer details such as the size and angle of the steering wheel, the feel and positioning of magnesium alloy paddle shifters, and available supple leather and Alcantara seating surfaces. The driver's hip point has been engineered to be as close as possible to the vehicle's centre of gravity.

The LC 500's multilink suspension system gets double ball joints on the upper and lower control arms which help optimize suspension geometry to increase wheel control and create a more precise steering response. To reduce weight, all but one of the control arms are made of lightweight forged aluminum.

"The LC 500 has been an important product for Lexus and me personally. A few years ago, we decided to guide the future of the brand with products that had more passion and distinction in the luxury market. This flagship luxury coupe's proportions, stunning design and performance make a strong statement about our brand's emotional direction and will grow the Lexus luxury appeal globally." said Akio Toyoda, chief branding officer and master driver for Lexus.
