2016 Skoda Rapid facelift launched in India at Rs 8.34 lakh
Skoda India has launched the Rapid facelift at Rs 8.34 lakh, ex-Maharashtra. The Skoda Rapid facelift is available in 10 variants - five for the petrol and five for the diesel. The base diesel is priced at Rs 9.57 lakh while the top-end automatic retails at Rs 12.78 lakh. Skoda dealers have already started accepting bookings at Rs 25,000. Dealers are offering up to a Rs 1 lakh discount on the outgoing model.
Skoda says that the new crystalline design language is inspired by traditional Bohemian crystals. It adds that the design is emotionally appealing. Other changes include a revised grille design which gives the Rapid an even more premium look, smoked tail lamps and chrome finished door handles. The Rapid will also get projector headlamps and LED DRLs on the top variants.
The biggest change to the Rapid lineup is the introduction of the 110PS 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Ameo. This engine can be ordered with a 5-speed manual as well as the 7-speed DSG. Skoda claims improved mileage figures as well - 21.72kmpl for the DSG and 21.13kmpl for the MT. The 1.6-litre naturally aspirated 105PS engine continues to soldier on and is also available with a conventional automatic box (14.84kmpl) as well as a manual (15.41kmpl).
The Skoda Rapid facelift packs in an host of features that include rain sensing wipers, cruise control, new fog lamp case and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink. The MirrorLink feature allows occupants to pair their smartphones for ease of use. The steering wheel is adjustable for rake and reach while the mirrors are electrically foldable.
ABS as well as dual airbags are standard across the range. The automatic variants receive Hill Hold Control and electronic stability control as well. The Rapid also comes with a 460 litre boot space.
Skoda has been steadily ramping up its sales and service network in the country. Skoda offers a 4 year service care program as standard on all Skoda models. The program includes a 4 year warranty and 4 year road side assistance program. In additon, customers can also purchase a 4 year service package.
