2018 Triumph Tiger: Five things that you should know
Triumph has released a teaser video of the new Tiger that will be unveiled on November 7. The 2018 Triumph Tiger will feature a new design, updated feature list and most importantly a new triple engine. The teaser video, titled "New Tiger", doesn't reveal much information except that there are two models of the Tiger, off-road and road biased. The 2018 Triumph Tiger will be revealed in the first week of November with the international launch expected to happen in sometime early next year. Here are the top five things that you should know about the 2018 Triumph Tiger.
1) Design:
This blurred screen grab of the all-new Triumph Tiger suggests a slightly more sculpted model that uses the same overall theme as the last one but the bodywork seems to sit lower at the front and is wider while the screen seems just a little bit taller. The headlamp shape is similar and it's almost guaranteed to have LED head lights this time round. The promo shots seem to use the top model - not confirmed - but note the lack of standard auxiliary lights
2) Features:
This shot of the left switch set of the all-new Tiger shows cruise control buttons on the top, slightly blurred, the mode switch to change riding modes, a red horn button, an enter button to confirm selections and the usual switches including the heated grips switch. Expect Triumph to use their 'joystick' for navigating the menus also as usual on the all-new 2018 Triumph Tiger
3) TFT Display:
Colour TFT screens are slowly become the norm in the premium bike space and the Triumph Tiger, all-new for 2018 seems ready to adopt them. Seems? See how Triumph articulated the Street Triple Range. The base model might retain a more cost-effective LCD screen while the higher models will get the all-singing, all-dancing colour screen. Triumph tends to prefer slightly busy, gimmicky but extremely clear and legible graphics but the response to the Street says that works rather well for Triumph customers
4) Exhaust:
We are not sure if the bike in the promo is wearing the stock exhaust or one from the accessory catalogue but the position looks similar to the current one - high and tucked next to the tail light on the all-new 2018 Triumph Tiger. Also like how the simpler shape of the current tail lamp evolves into the more nuanced shape of the new one
5) Engine:
The displacement and origin of the new engine isn't confirmed but we expect the Tiger's new motor to be a 900 or 950cc triple based, just like the last time, on the new 765cc triple that does duty on the base Street Triple S engine. Power output may not rise significantly but expect a fatter torque curve and perhaps for the first time, a step up in performance within the Tiger (900/950) range with the higher models offering more torque and/or more power.
