2019 Hyundai Venue SUV launched in India at Rs 6.50 lakh

And finally it is that day when Hyundai India has launched its first-ever sub-4m SUV in the country called the Venue. Why is the called that? Hyundai believes that the Venue SUV is for the young and the adventorous who love to travel and explore. Any destination that they travel to, becomes an important venue. Priced at Rs 6.50 lakh for the base petrol, the Hyundai Venue SUV is available in both petrol and diesel with a choice between manual and automatic transmissions. The diesel variants of the Venue are priced Rs 7.75 lakh onward. All prices, ex-Delhi.

If interested, Hyundai India dealerships across the country have already started accepting bookings for the SUV in the country for a token amount of Rs 21,000. The four main offerings in the sub-4M SUV that the Hyundai Venue will lock horns with are the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, followed by Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Ford EcoSport.

At the launch venue (saw what I did there), the design of the Hyundai Venue was one of the highlights of this compact SUV. While we in India have not seen this treatment on a Hyundai yet, the Venue follows the same design language as offered on the Hyundai Kona, that arrives later in the year and also the new-gen Hyundai Santa Fe. Importantly, this design language will also be witnessed in the new-gen or the 2020 Hyundai Creta that launched in India next year. Among the highlights of the Hyundai Venue SUV are the cascading grille and the slim DRLs, similar to what we see on the Tata Harrier, the diamond finished alloys. squarish profile and the neat and tidy tail section.

Given that the segment is defined by the very fact that all SUVs measure less than four metres, there's barely in difference in their overall lengths. The EcoSport is the longest though at 3,998mm, followed by the Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300 at 3,995mm and the Tata Nexon at 3,994mm. The XUV300 is the widest of all at 1,821mm, followed by the Nexon at 1,811mm. The Vitara Brezza slots in next, measuring 1,790mm, followed by the Venue and EcoSport at 1,770mm and 1,765mm respectively.

The compact SUV from Hyundai is offered with a choice between two petrol and one diesel engine paired to either two manual or one dual-clutch automzatic transmission in various permutations. One of the petrols is the new Kappa T-GDI 1.0 litre turbo. This three-cylinder motor will be available in its higher output iteration, which makes 120PS and 172 Nm. his engine is already available on a number of Hyundai and Kia cars globally like the i20 since 2015. The turbocharger in this motor is fitted with an electronically-controlled waste-gate actuator. This improves fuel efficiency by lowering pumping losses as well as improving throttle response and low-end torque. It also gets a 250 bar GDI six-hole fuel injector which allows for clean combustion and improved fuel economy and emissions. The other petrol motor, for lower-spec cars, will be the 1.2-litre petrol with 83PS and 116Nm, as seen on various Hyundai cars in India. The single diesel option will be the 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel motor which puts out 90PS and 220Nm, paired with a six-speed manual.

The cabin of the Venue comes equipped with Hyundai's BlueLink system which is is Hyundai's connectivity solution that allows your smartphone to be connected to your car, giving remote access to some of the car's features. Along with remote access, the Blue Link will provide safety, security, location-based and alert services. The Blue Link has features such as artificial intelligence and is equipped with vehicle relationship management.
