2020 Hyundai Creta: Variants explained

The all-new 2020 Hyundai Creta will be launched today and before we get there, here is a rundown on its variants, trims and specifications. Built on a new platform, the Creta is longer, gets a new set of engines, additions to the features list and of course the polarising design. It is being offered in 14 variants across the five trims, three engine options and the manual and automatic gearbox options. There are seven colour options to choose from for the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine powered Creta while the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol gets three.

The variants

Like the previous generation Creta, the new Creta will also get the five trims – E, EX, S, SX and the top-of-the-line SX (O). The 1.5-litre petrol is being offered only in the EX, S and SX trims with the 6-speed manual gearbox, and the 6-speed CVT option will be offered in the SX and SX (O) trims only. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol comes only with the 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and is being offered with the SX and SX (O) trims. The diesel is also offered in seven trims, all five with the manual gearbox and the 6-speed automatic is reserved for the SX and SX (O).

The equipment

The entry-level E trim gets an extensive features list to start with. LED positioning lamps are standard with projector headlamps along with body-coloured dual tone bumpers, mirrors and door handles. Rear view mirrors are electrically adjustable and get LED turn indicators. Power windows are standard across the range along with air-conditioning and rear AC vents. The steering is tilt adjustable across trims. In terms of safety, dual airbags are standard along with ABS, rear parking sensors, central locking, immobiliser, speed-sensing door locks as well as the emergency stop signal. You also get keyless entry, a cooled glove box and dual-tone black and grey fabric upholstery.

The EX trim gets all the equipment of the E and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You also get steering-mounted audio controls with voice commands and an audio system with front and rear speakers and tweeters in the front. You also get an USB port in the front and a sunglass holder on the roof over the E.

The S trim gets front fog lamps, rear defogger, automatic headlamps, LED tail lamps and rear-view camera set-up. It gets integrated roof rails, a chrome grille in the front and a rear wiper. Inside, you get a parcel tray in the boot, window shade for the rear passengers and a USB port in the back. You also get automatic climate control, cruise control and a smart key with push-button start.

Moving on to the SX trim, in terms of safety, the Hyundai Creta offers ESP with hill-start assist and child seat anchor points in the rear. The SX also offers the voice-operated panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloys, LED headlamps, LED DRLs, puddle lamps and chrome outside door handles. The wing mirrors are auto-folding and it also gets one-touch power window on the driver side. You also get LED reading lamps and a rear armrest with cup holders. The SX gets the larger 10.2-inch touchscreen display with advanced BlueLink connectivity and a smartwatch app along with a wireless smartphone charger. The rear headrests are now adjustable and the 60-40 split rear seat can also be reclined.

The 1.4-litre turbo petrol gets 17-inch grey alloys, twin-tip exhaust and an optional dual-tone paint scheme. While all-black interior with blue ambient lighting is standard on the SX, the turbo-petrol gets an orange-pack with leatherette upholstery and sporty pedals. The automatics get an electric parking brake, drive modes, paddle shifters and traction control modes over the manual transmission cars.

On the SX (O) trim, you get the 8-speaker Bose audio system with a central speaker and a subwoofer, ventilated seats in the front row, and an 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat. The interior is done up in leather and gets six airbags, auto-dimming inside the rear-view mirror and the 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels on the outside.

Specifications

The 1,493cc U2 CRDI diesel engine develops 115PS of power at 4,000rpm and 250Nm of torque from 1,500rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.

The 1,497cc MPi petrol engine delivers 115PS of power at 6,300rpm and develops 144Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. This engine also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox but the automatic is a 6-speed CVT.

Finally, the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 140PS power at 6,000rpm and delivers 242Nm of torque from 1,500rpm and is paired with a 7-speed DCT.

All variants of the Creta get a 50-litre fuel tank and disc brakes at the rear are offered only in the higher-spec SX and SX (O) trims.
