Maruti Suzuki has launched the petrol-powered BSVI iteration of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross crossover in India, with the addition of an automatic transmission to the lineup. Prices start from Rs 8.39 lakh for the base Sigma trim, going up to Rs 12.39 lakh for the Alpha AT. Bookings for the petrol S-Cross have already begun, at a cost of Rs 11,000 via the Nexa website or at dealerships.

For reference, the S-Cross with the 1.3-litre diesel engine last carried a price tag of Rs 8.81 lakh, going up to Rs 11.43 lakh, with no automatic option available. Given Maruti Suzuki's move to a petrol-only line-up in the BSVI-era, the S-Cross is now available only with the 1.5-litre K15B petrol motor, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.55kmpl for the manual variant, and 18.43kmpl for the automatic. This 1.5-litre unit is the same as the one on the facelifted Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Ciaz, putting out 105PS and 138Nm torque. Aside from a five-speed manual, a four-speed automatic is being offered for the first time in the S-Cross.

This petrol motor replaces the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet diesel that the S-Cross came with earlier. That motor made 90PS and 200Nm and was available with a simpler mild-hybrid setup. The S-Cross doesn't get any visual updates with the change and the SUV continues to be available in the four trims it came in earlier.

The S-Cross automatic is available in all trims except the base Sigma variant, and comes equipped with a hill-hold assist feature. As far as the feature list goes, the BSVI S-Cross petrol retains the feature list of the discontinued diesel model, with LED projector headlamps, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, leather upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, and cruise control being the headline features. Five colour options are available Nexa Blue, Caffeine Brown, Granite Grey, Pearl Arctic White and Premium Silver.

The S-Cross competes most closely with the recently facelifted Honda WR-V and some sub-four-metre SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and it's stablemate the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
