Ashok Leyland has announced the launch of its intermediate commercial vehicle (ICV), BOSS. Manufactured at the company’s largest, state-of-the-art plant in Uttarakhand, the BOSS is available in LE and LX variants. It is being launched in the haulage segment with 9.6T, 11.9Tand 12.9T GVW.

BOSS is Ashok Leyland’s idea to find a cross between strength and ruggedness of a truck with the comfort of a car. “Manufactured on a modern and efficient chassis line and a state-of-the-art cab line using robotic processes and with unmatched comfort-features, we have made every investment to ensure that the BOSS delivers on quality, durability and reliability. We are confident of making significant headway in the fast-growing ICV market with the new BOSS,” said Vinod Dasari, MD, Ashok Leyland.

It boasts of European-design cab and indigenous driveline. A service interval of 40,000kms, a hydraulic power steering system, a turning radius of 15.3mtrs, a 3-year anti-perforation warranty for the cabin and a 5-year replacement guarantee on the rear LED lights are some of the highlights. The vehicle is also being claimed to have undergone rigorous testing.

An ergonomically designed dashboard with controls, multi-angle adjustable seats, rake and reach adjustable steering column and a 2-point suspended cabin are other features.

The BOSS LE is fitted with a 120PS H-series BS3 engine with an in-line fuel injection pump and a 6-speed overdrive gearbox. The BOSS LX comes equipped with a 130PS common rail engine and an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) that eliminates the need for clutch operation and gear-shifting. The LX also comes with factory-fitted air-conditioning.

The Stile MPV from Ashok Leyland will be launched in India within the first half of October 2013.
