It is not everyday that you bump into a certain Adrian Newey. Yes that Adrian Newey who just happens to be Red Bull’s chief technical officer. While Newey was looking rather proud of his son Harrison Newey who had just won the 2016 MRF Challenge Championship with a total of 277 points, we caught up with him and asked him a few questions about the new AM-RB 001 hypercar.

The Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing-developed AM-RB 001 hypercar has been gaining a lot of traction for its supposed specs. It is known that an all-new motor will be powering the AM-RB 001. The motor is rumoured to have a displacement of 6.0-litre or 7-litre, and the V12 unit will put out 1,000PS of power, peaking at 9,500rpm. The claimed maximum speed has been speculated to be over 400kmph.

When we tried to get a confirmation of the same from Newey, he stated that the car will not be about maximum speed, as that’s a Bugatti territory. “We aren’t really aiming for a fast car. But saying that, we want to make a quick car indeed,” he remarked.

Newey added that the AM-RB 001 will come in two versions – standard and track-spec. While the standard will offer performance combined with practicality, it is the track-spec car that will come with all the racing wizardry. The tyres and suspensions for the track-spec car will be completely different from its street version. Newey also stated that the track version of the AM-RB 001 will take on the McLaren P1 in terms of lap timings.

Newey also confirmed that the production version of both the regular and track spec AM-RB 001 should be out by early 2019.
