Auto Expo 2014: Piaggio S unveiled, to go on sale soon
Piaggio India revealed that the next scooter to come to India will be the new Vespa S. The S is based on the same platform as the Vespa LX125 (which Vespa continues to insist on calling just the Vespa in India). The S' biggest difference is that it looks a bit older than the neo-retro Vespa and is, in fact, the old school sibling.
The S is based on the same platform as the VX to be precise which means it gets the disc brake up front, the same chassis and rear suspension. The engine is also identical and the S will use the carburetted 125cc single just like the other Vespa scooters that are on sale in India.
The scooter is expected to go on sale in about a month from now and given that Vespa have worked to make the seat more comfortable and there are small additions like a cubby space in the front apron, we are expecting the price to go up by as much as Rs 3-4,000.'
Vespa also indicated that it would like to follow the Vespa S with the 946 which might just be likely to become India's very first CBU scooter.
