"To improve is to change, to perfect is to change often" seems to be the mantra that BMW seems to be abiding by. Having unveiled the 2 Series coupe only recently at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, they have already decided to give some interesting updates for the 2015 model. The xDrive system will now be available on both the entry level 228i and sporty M235i model for an additional cost of $1800. The xDrive will not improve the power figures but it will ensure that when you floor the throttle pedal, the power is transmitted smoothly to the road to give you the best possible traction. There is also selective braking on the wheels while cornering which eliminates the tendency of the car to under steer or oversteer depending on the road conditions. The system is comparable to the 4-Matic offered by Mercedes Benz and the Quattro by Audi.

Worldwide the 2 Series is offered in 3 trims SE, Modern Sport and M Sport, the petrol variants include 220i, 228i, M235i, the diesel variants include 218d, 220d and 225d. For those who don't want to splurge the extra cash and purchase the M235i, but still crave for the hooliganism offered on the car, BMW has thrown in the Track Handling Package for an additional cost of $1600-$2200. This lowers the suspension by 10mm for days when you want to head out on the racetrack, you also gets adaptive suspension, variable steering, M Sport brakes, 18 inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres. The 2 Series competes with the Mercedes CLA sedan and the Audi A3, which is arriving on Indian shores in July, and is expected to make waves. The Mercedes CLA will make its way to India only after the new C-Class will be launched in 2015; The CLA 45 AMG is expected to arrive in the second half of 2014. It would be interesting to see if BMW launches the M235i and pits it against the CLA 45 AMG. Seeing the recent trend with BMW's increased focus on the M portfolio; it might just be a possibility.
