BMW has announced a joint partnership with Good Energy, the 100% renewable electricity supplier, to enable its customers to power their vehicles with green energy. The joined forces will allow owners of the BMW i3 and i8, in England, Scotland and Wales, to power their vehicles using electricity from unconventional (renewable) sources.

This partnership includes the provision of 100 per cent green electricity to households of BMW customers throughout the UK. This will allow i3 and i8 owners to 'green' charge their vehicle while at home.

The companies also are thinking of using this partnership to develop new custom green electricity tariff. They also will take "the UK supply and demand as well as typical charging behaviours into account to maximise the positive effects of Electric Vehicles on the national CO2 footprint".

It is the more compact of the two 'i' cars. The i3, which measures less than 4m in length, uses carbon fibre reinforced polymer or CFRP for the body shell that sits on an all aluminium rolling chassis. The car weighs less than 1200kg and has a claimed top speed of 150kmph. It can also accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 7.9 seconds. The i8 on the other hand is a hybrid supercar. The high-performance coupe is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit making 232PS, with an added 133PS coming from the lithium-ion electric motor. The top speed is restricted to 249kmph, while the car can pull-off a 0-100kmph dash in 4.4 seconds.
