BMW and Toyota shake hands over new sports car development
Further adding to the memorandum of understanding signed between the two companies in June last year, Toyota and BMW have inked an agreement as also released details about their partnership. The headline announcement is regarding the studies that both companies have undertaken about the feasibility of a new mid-size sports car on a joint lightweight platform. Will be it be the rise of the Supra or something on the lines of the Z4, only an announcement early next year from both the companies involved will confirm.
Other than the sports car, both the companies will be developing lightweight technologies for their vehicle bodies, of which reinforced composites will form a key part. A joint research to develop a highly powerful Li-ion battery, far exceeding today's capacity is also on the cards. Both the companies will also share technologies for fuel cell vehicles and zero emissions.
