BMW Motorrad India teases F 900 XR and S 1000 XR
BMW Motorrad India has started teasing two of its upcoming sport-tourers - the spanking new F 900 XR and the all-new S 1000 XR. Both the bikes are united on their intent of fast and agile, sport-touring manners, but divided by their chassis and powertrains.
Bookings for the BMW and the F 900 XR will open in India from May 2020
The F 900 XR is powered by an 895cc parallel-twin engine based on the motor that power the BMW 850 GS. The twin-cylinder engine is known for its rev-happy nature and in the F 900 XR, it churns out 105PS and 92Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed transmission with a quick shifter. Other electronics include traction control, cornering ABS, ride by wire with riding modes, cruise control, keyless ride, and adaptive cornering lights. The F 900 XR also get an optional electronic rear suspension with dynamic adjustment. At the front, the 850 GS derived chassis of the F 900 XR is suspended by 43mm forks. BMW S 1000 XR
The S 1000 XR, which looks very similar to its lesser sibling, wears a noticeably beefier bodywork and shows off a much larger radiator that hides a four-cylinder engine behind it. As before, the S 1000 XR borrows the powerplant from its S 1000 RR supersport sibling and 999cc motor produces 164PS and 114Nm of torque. It has an electronics suite similar to the 900's, boasting of tech like electronic suspension fore and aft, wheelie control, and hill start assist. The S 1000 XR also gets a new 6.5-inch TFT instrumentation with four changeable themes. Compared to the outgoing S 1000 XR, the upcoming model boasts of better ergonomics, a 10kg lighter construction and taller gearing for better touring performance. As before, the S 1000 XR rivals the Ducati Multistrada 1260s and its own sibling, the R 1250 GS.
We expect the pricing for the F 900 XR to be in the range of Rs 15-18 lakh and the S 1000 XR to be priced between Rs 18-21 lakh ex-showroom, and that BMW Motorrad India will open bookings by May 2020.
