Centre to invest Rs 25,000 crore in Assam for building roads and bridges
Nitin Gadkari, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister has announced that the central government will be investing Rs 25,000 crore for developing roads and bridges in Assam over the next two to three years. He laid the foundation stone for four road projects having a total length of 82.6 kilometres and worth around Rs 1,200 crore.
"We have given prime focus on developing road and water infrastructure in the Northeast and Assam. For this, the centre will invest Rs 25,000 crore through NHAI, PWD and NHIDCL," said Gadkari at a press conference.

"Two new highways from Sivasagar to North Lakhimpur via Disangmukh and from Jorhat to North Lakhimpur via Majuli will also be built. The total length of the projects will be 122 kilometres and they will also have two major bridges over Brahmaputra. Besides, 624 kilometres of roads will be added to the National Highway in Assam. Along with this, the preparation of detailed project report is in progress for the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge across Brahmaputra and the estimated cost for this will be Rs 3,000 crore," added Gadkari.
The Union Minister also revealed that currently work on 66 road projects are underway with a total length of 1,378 kilometres and a total investment of Rs 14,700 crore.
