Citroen reveals the C4 coupe-SUV, gets all-electric option

Citroen has brought back its long-standing C4 nameplate, but this time it denotes a new coupe-SUV that sits below the India-bound Citroen C5 Aircross SUV. The Citroen C4 is based on the smaller C3, and while the French carmaker is calling the new car a hatchback, the styling seems more in-line with what you would see on a coupe-SUV. Notably, the C4 can also be had with an electric powertrain.

The C4 features the newest development of Citroen's design language that debuted in the CXperience Concept. This is characterised by the Citroen chevrons now stretching into the V-shaped full-LED twin-headlamp setup. There is a clamshell-like bonnet, as seen on the C5, and the striking sloping roofline. The rear is also new for a Citroen, with the strong haunches over the rear wheels and heavily raked rear windscreen. There is a flat hatch with a ducktail spoiler and the same V-shape to the taillamps. The combustion-engine and EV versions styling are differentiated by separate treatment for the matte black side skirts.

The interiors of the new C4 also come with the same angular theme seen on the carmaker's existing line-up. However, there is a new steering wheel with gloss-black paddles, different patterns for the dash, door pads and seats, and a new metal-finished gear selector. There is chrome and gloss-black accents to highlight the interiors. Further, there are six interior upholstery options, five of which come with the innovative advanced seats. Notable features are a HUD, the frameless 10-inch infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, LED ambient lighting, wireless charging and a fully-digital instrument cluster. A full suite of driver assistance tech is also available.

The crossover also comes with a suite of customisation options. Aside from the six interior trim options, there are seven exterior colours and five could packs that add contrast exterior elements. Numerous wheel options ranging from 16 to 18 inches in size can be specified.

The Citroen e-C4 is the fifth of six electrified models that Citroen wants to bring out soon. The EV is powered by a 50 kWh battery that gives its a 350 km WLTP range.  This powers a 138PS and 260 Nm motor which can get the C4 to 100 kmph from standstill in 9.7s and on to a 150 kmph top-speed. Charging via a 100 kW fast charger take, the e-C4 will reach 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes. With an 11 kW wall box, the battery charges fully in 5 hours.

The C4 can also be had with a wide range of combustion engines. There are five petrol engines on offer starting with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with 100PS/205 Nm and paired with a six-speed manual. This goes up to a version with 155PS/240 Nm paired with an eight-speed automatic. There are two diesel engine options on offer as well. The 1.5-litre unit can be had with either 110PS/205 Nm and a six-speed manual or one with 130PS/300 Nm and an eight-speed auto. There is no FWD but Citroen's patented hydraulic suspension set up is available.

There is no word yet on whether the Citroen C4 will be a part of the brand's India line-up. The carmaker has had to delay its entry into the Indian market in the current situation, but the C5 Aircross SUV remains the first car to be launched here.
