European-spec Suzuki Swift wins Green Apple award

12 Nov 2014 / 1

While its India-spec model has lately been making headlines for scoring a nil in the crash tests, the Suzuki Swift in the UK recently won the Green Apple award.

Organised by The Green Organisation with a jury comprised of motor journalists and writers, the awards are given out to manufacturers of vehicles that are made environment-friendly without compromising on the driving experience or design. Having bagged the silver in the Supermini category, the Suzuki Swift was hailed as a vehicle that’s “reasonably frugal but balances that by being a hoot to drive while remaining a really honest car.” The jury member further added that “there’s nothing pretentious about the model, it just looks good, is well built, has plenty of kit and sips at the fuel no matter how much fun you’re having.”

Currently in India, the Swift is manufactured by Maruti-Suzuki and offered with the K-Series petrol or the DDiS diesel engine. Our review of the 2015 Maruti-Suzuki Swift facelift showed that the diesel engine returned a fuel efficiency of 14.9kmpl. The Swift in the UK will be soon getting the 1.2-litre Dualjet engine which is claimed to be even greener with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.
