FADA calls for ban on requirement of approval of new vehicle models by state transport departments
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) has appealed to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to cancel the superfluous requirement of approval of new vehicle models by the state transport departments. The association has brought to light, the malpractices that take place due to this rule as well as the illogical nature of it. FADA is the national body of automobile dealers in the country and represents 12,500 automobile dealers.
The association's president, John K Paul also highlighted the fact that the CMVR or the Motor Vehicles Act does not state that a new model needs to be further approved by the State Transport Department. This, especially after the said vehicle's prototype has already been tested and certified by any national testing and certifying agency.
FADA has urged the ministry to take action swiftly and abolish this demand at the earliest. It has also highlighted the example of the Maharashtra Transport Department that does not enforce such a requirement, and pushed for other State Transport Departments to follow suit.
