From next year, Ford cars in India will come equipped with a voice-activated system that'd link your smartphone to the car's infotainment system.

Essentially an add-on to Ford's SYNC tecnology, the AppLink feature was introduced and confirmed at the Mobile Developer Summit 2013 in Bangalore. The SYNC AppLink is a voice-activated system that bridges software-compatible smartphone applications with the in-car infotainment system.

The platform is planned to be introduced in India with ESPNcricinfo, MapmyIndia, burrp!, Glympse, TuneIn Radio, etc. Ford has also opened the AppLink application programming interface (API) on its Developer Program website and has invited developers to add and further enhance the AppLink system with their apps.

"We are excited about bringing SYNC AppLink to India and will offer industry-exclusive voice control technology for smartphone apps thereby providing drivers the convenience to access content and information while on-the-go. SYNC AppLink is an exciting addition to Ford's class-leading connectivity technology and goes further in personalising the in-car experience," said David Huang, senior manager, Ford Asia Pacific.

Ford started off by introducing Bluetooth connectivity on the Figo, then Voice Control in the Global Fiesta and the SYNC technology in the newly launched Ecosport. With the increasing number of smartphone users and their urge to 'stay connected', the AppLink system could help Ford garner further attention.

"We have allowed seamless connectivity, entertainment and convenience and are excited to take it forward with SYNC AppLink keeping our customers in mind," said Vinay Piparsania, executive director, Marketing, Sales and Service.
