Ford invests $135 million in electric vehicles development

Ford has announced that it has now invested $135 million into its electric vehicles development facility in Dearborn as also has appointed 1,000 new engineers. The 285,000 sq-ft R&D centre has been renamed as the Ford Advanced Electrification Centre from Advanced Engineering Centre. Ford is looking to double its battery-testing capabilities by 2013. The company is looking to launch five electrified vehicles by the end of this year.

Joe Bakaj, Ford vice president of powertrain engineering said, "The good news for customers is that they not only have more choice, but they have faster access to Ford's latest and greatest in fuel-saving technologies and vehicles. This stems directly from our decisions to deliver true power of choice by expanding our dedicated electrified vehicle team and further investing in our facilities."
