Ford Mustang production halted to adjust inventory
Ford has temporarily halted the production of the Mustang at the company's Flat Rock assembly plant in Michigan. The reason is believed to be an adjustment in the inventory numbers. The production in the Michigan plant has been halted between October 10-17, 2016.
The Ford Mustang faces strong competition from the Chevrolet Camaro and this is the first time in two years that the latter has taken a lead over the Mustang. The other reason for the production halt is believed to be the drop in sales numbers of the Mustang that was reported last month. The Ford Michigan plant presently employs 3,702 employees and all of them will continue to be paid during the shutdown phase. In addition to the Ford Mustang, the Flat Rock plant is also responsible for the manufacturing of Lincoln Continental.
Ford launched the Mustang in India at Rs 65 lakh. The India-spec Ford Mustang is offered with a 5.0-litre V8 TiVCT motor that makes 401PS of power and generates 515Nm of torque,paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Read our detailed road test review here.
We did reach out to Ford India for their comments and they assured that the deliveries of the Mustang in India will not be affected with the shutdown of the Michigan plant. Presently, there is a waiting of close to four to five months depending on the options and the colour choices one wishes to avail.
