General Motors launches limited edition Chevy spark
General Motors has launched the limited edition Chevy spark that fall in the range of Rs 3.44 and 3.99 lakh. Faced with stiff competition from Hyundai Eon, Nissan Micra and Maruti Alto K10, Chevy decided to inject a new lease of life into its ageing hatchback.
The updates are mere cosmetic changes and the spark now features ambient foot well lighting, a new steering wheel cover, limited edition badging, red stripes on the seat covers which add a tinge of sportiness and dashes of chrome on the exterior. The dual tone front and rear bumpers, clear lens headlamps and the twin-port grille with chrome accents do their best to give the Spark a fresh look, but it's beginning to show its age. Nevertheless the Spark also gets rear view mirrors with integrated turn signals which are a segment first.
The power train and mechanicals have been left largely untouched and are powered by the same 1.0-litre Smartech engine which churns out 63PS and 90Nm of torque - generous for a car in its segment. The wing shaped instrument cluster mounted on the center of dash comes with a clever combination of both analogue and digital displays which not only give it a modern touch but also improve the visibility from the rear passenger seat.
The Spark limited edition also comes with a standard class-leading warranty of 3years/100000 km which ensures your running and maintenance costs are kept to a bare minimum. The Spark's ride, stability and comfort in the rear seat have always been its strong points but it has a huge job at hand considering that it is going up against some formidable rivals in the form of the newly launched Datsun G0 and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. The Celerio maybe slightly higher priced than the Spark but comes with AMT transmission which is surely an ace up its sleeve. Whether the Spark can make a turnaround for Chevy remains to be seen.

With an appealing exterior and enriched interior, the newest member of the Spark family provides a superior value proposition in every respect. The Spark Limited Edition has added a steering wheel cover, matching neck rests, ambient foot-well lighting, beige seat covers with red stripes, an exterior chrome kit, carpet floor mats, outside rearview mirrors (OSRVM) with integrated turn signals, side body graphics in a choice of two colors and Limited Edition badging. Available for a limited period of time, the Spark Limited Edition comes in a choice of seven vibrant colors: Summit White, Sandrift Grey, Misty Lake Metallic, Switchblade Silver, Velvet Red, Linen Beige and Caviar Black. The city car's four-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine delivers peak power of 63 PS @ 5,400 rpm and peak torque of 90.3 Nm @ 4,200 rpm. Power and torque are maximized at lower speeds, making the Spark Limited Edition ideal for commuting both in congested cities and on open highways. The signature Chevrolet twin-port grille, clear lens "quotation" headlamps, chrome accents on the grille, sporty fog lamps with trendy bezels surrounded by chrome, and dual-tone front and rear bumpers give the Spark Limited Edition a refreshing appearance. Positioned at the centre of the dashboard and easily visible to all occupants is the "wing-inspired" instrument cluster, which features a combination of analogue and digital displays that lend a modern feeling to the interior.
