This Clipper takes the humble MPV into the future with electric power, 204kmph top speed and a range of over 500 kilometres. The all wheel drive car derives its name from fast sailing ships from the 19th century but is based on the very current Volkswagen MQB platform.
The Clipper is driven forward on an all-electric power train that features two 147PS motors driving both sets of wheels. This all-electric design allow for the batteries to be placed flat on the floor of the MPV making for a spacious interior. The 4534mm long people mover allows the concept to seat six in three rows of two. The third row looks comfortable for full sized adults and can even fold away to free up 900 liters of boot space. A futuristic 3D dash display information to the driver with a large display sitting in front of the passenger seat as well. There are also iPad minis nestled behind the headrests of the first and second rows.
Is the Clipper a glimpse into the future of family mobility? “This year, we wanted to focus our styling and engineering research on a project for a deliberately not-futuristic car,‚ÄĚ says Giorgetto Giugiaro. And while the dihedral and butterfly doors and the multitude of complex displays are not quite within the realms of the ‚Äėnear future‚Äô the rest of the Clipper does seem quite plausible.
