Hyundai Creta waiting periods reduce to a month in India
The headline should be a sigh of relief for many customers who had booked their Cretas perhaps last year or earlier this year. The Hyundai Creta's waiting periods were nearly seven months when it was launched in 2015.
Hyundai India says that it has ramped up production of the Creta to 13,000 units per month at its Sriperumbudur plant. The initial production capacity for the Creta at this facility was 5,000 units, which was ramped to 7,000 and then 10,000 units.
There, however, is a catch here. Few of the dealers told us that the waiting periods depend on the model ordered and the colour opted for. For example, the higher selling SX+ and top-end SX(O) diesel trims command a one-month waiting period in the regular silver, white and black colours. Similarly, the diesel AT variants too command only a month long waiting period. The petrol AT variant, which we tested a few days ago, has a two-month waiting period. In the case of specific colours like red, the waiting period increases to 3-4 months. Base variants of the Hyundai Creta, which aren't in much demand, are more of a made-to-order type and hence have a four-month waiting period.
The Hyundai Creta has been one of the top-grossing models for the company after the Elite i20. This is also primarily one of the reasons why there have been no updates made to the Creta. Hyundai on the contrary has removed a couple of features like automatic climate control from the S+ model and music system from the base trim. It is also no secret that the Creta isn't the most feature-rich car in its segment, given that the rivals have auto headlights and wipers on the equipment list. In the recent months, it is facing stiff competition from the Maruti S-Cross which has seen a resurgence in its sales numbers after its own stablemate, the Vitara Brezza, commands an over-the-top nine-months waiting period.
Hyundai offers the best powertrain-transmission combination in a sub-Rs 20 lakh SUV. There are three engine options and two transmissions to choose from. The engine mix includes a 1.4-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol as well diesel units.
