Hyundai i20 crosses one-million sales mark in India

Hyundai has achieved the milestone of crossing one-million sales of its i20 hatchback in India. Launched in 2008, the i20 was the first hatchback to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift in India. Hyundai gave the i20 a new-generation update in 2014 with a revamped fluidic design and modern interiors. The Elite i20 also won the ICOTY 2015 after battling with other strong contenders like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City.

In June 2016, Hyundai sold 8,990 units of Elite i20 compared to the 6,969 units of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The Elite i20 and the Grand i10 together made Hyundai one of India's top-selling automobile brands in June 2016. The company sold 367,146 units (domestic) and 389,889 units (exports) of the first-generation i20 in 2008, whereas 205,441 units and 16,603 units of the Elite i20 were sold in 2014 in the domestic and export markets, respectively. Hyundai sold 30,877 units and 7,154 units of the crossover-inspired i20 Active in 2015. All these contribute to 10,17,110 units for Hyundai's premium hatchback in India. The Hyundai i20 Active and the Elite i20 are exported to more than 29 countries across Middle-East, Africa, Latin America and Asia

Commenting on the achievement, Y.K. Koo, MD, CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.
