India-bound 2017 Hyundai Verna launched in China
The 2017 Hyundai Verna has been launched in China. Hyundai had showcased the 2017 Verna for the first time in China last month at the Chengdu Motor Show. In China, the Hyundai Verna is offered with a 1.4-litre petrol engine which produces 101PS and a 1.6-litre petrol engine which makes 124PS. Both petrol engines have been carried over from its predecessor. Hyundai is offering buyers the choice of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai India is expected to launch the new Verna sometime next year. Unlike China, the carmaker could offer the new Verna with a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines in India. The 1.4-litre diesel engine makes 90PS of power and 220Nm of torque. The bigger 1.6-litre diesel generates 128PS of power and 260Nm of torque. Like the petrol variant, the diesel variant will also be offered with a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox option. The 2017 Verna has a length of 4,380mm, width of 1,728mm and height of 1,460mm. In terms of dimensions, it is bigger than the outgoing model.
In terms of design, the new Verna borrows styling cues from the new-gen Hyundai Elantra. It gets the same sharp front hexagonal grille as the bigger Elantra. The cabin layout and design has also been inspired from the new Elantra. The interiors look a lot more upmarket and the pictures suggest that the fit and finish has improved as well. The top trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, new alloy wheels and an engine start/stop button.
In China, the Hyundai Verna range starts at RMB 72,800 for the base Verna 1.4 which is around Rs 7.19 lakh. The top Hyundai Verna 1.6 trim costs RMB 105,800 which is about Rs 10.45 lakh. We expect Hyundai India to retail the new Verna for around Rs 15-20,000 more than the current model.
