Hyundai Santro variants to be repositioned in India

Hyundai India will be soon repositioning the variant line-up of its hatchback offering, the Santro. According to the new update, the entry-level variants, D-Lite and Era will be discontinued from its line-up. In place of these two variants, Hyundai will be adding a new variant called Era Executive which will be the new variant range starter for the Santro. Hyundai India will start the deliveries of the Era Executive shortly.

In terms of features, the Hyundai Santro Era Executive comes with power windows, air-conditioning and body coloured bumpers. Something that was missing on the D-Lite. Hyundai has, however, given a miss to rear AC vents which was available on the Era variant. Additionally, the Santro Sportz AMT is now equipped with passenger airbags, rear view camera and seat belt pretensioners. Further, the Santro Magna manual and CNG variants now feature steering mounted controls and audio system with Bluetooth connectivity.

It is a known fact that the entry-level variants are not as popular as the mid and the top-end trims, reason being the features list. In case of the Hyundai Santro too, the entry-level trims have not gained as much traction as the top trims. Having a single variant that comes with most features that is offered in base and a trim higher makes economic sense not only for the driver but also for the dealerships who end up locking their capital on multiple base variants.

The new Santro is powered by a heavily reworked version of the 1.1-litre, four-cylinder Epsilon petrol engine that powered the last Santro Xing and offers 69PS and 99Nm in its current guise. The new Santro also debuts AMT technology for Hyundai and is available with the option of a five-speed AMT, apart from a five-speed manual gearbox. You also have the option of going in for a factory-fitted CNG kit which brings outputs down to 58PS and 84Nm. Claimed top speed is 150kmph while claimed fuel efficiency is 20.3kmpl. Suspension duties are taken care of by McPherson struts up front and torsion beams at the rear. Lower variants run on 13-inch wheels, while higher ones run on 14-inch rims.
