Harley-Davidson has just launched the 1200 Custom in India and it's priced at Rs 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 1200 Custom is a part of Harley-Davidson's Sportster family in India which also includes the Iron 883 and the Forty-Eight. It gets powered by a 1202cc Evolution V-twin fuel injected engine which produces 96Nm at 3,500rpm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. It will be assembled at Harley-Davidson India's plant in Bawal, Haryana.
Shumi recently rode the motorcycle and found it to be torquey, comfortable and responsive. You can read about it all in his first ride review. Scroll down to see the images from our photo shoot.
The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom looks tightly packed and compact thanks to a front-end that isn't too raked out. Note saree guard on both sides
The discs are bigger for this model year and the front forks on the Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom are now cartridge units. Rear suspension gets preload adjustment and the preload tool is now standard in the tool kit

The left side switches of the Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom include the digital readout toggle (circular emblem), horn, headlight beam and left side indicator switches
The switches are typical Harley with individual turn indicators on the Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom. The right side has the engine kill switch, electric start, hazards and the right indicator switches
The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom uses a familiar looking speedometer. The little digital readout shows a lot of information though - you have to get used to it
The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom uses forward set controls. They take a moment to get used to but work well with the pulled back bars
The small Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom headlamp looks good and projects a powerful beam. Not sure about the stylistic merit of the eyebrow that sits on top
The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom uses cast alloy wheels in a 16-inch size. Michelin Scorcher tyres prove grippy. ABS isn't available as an option in India though
The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom uses a box-section steel swingarm and twin rear shocks. The rear 16-inch tyre is a 150-section Michelin Scorcher
The Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom shares its 1202cc Evolution engine with the Forty-Eight. Peak output is 96Nm at 3,500rpm

The staggered pipes, lots of chrome on the engine and minimalist bodywork allow the Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom to look tidy and focussed
