Indian Motorcycles have finally landed on our shores. The American motorcycle manufacturer has brought in its three cruisers to India. The lowest priced among them is the Indian Classic at Rs 26.5 lakh. Stay tuned for Shumi's first ride report of the Classic. The Indian Classic has telescopic cartridge forks with dual rate springs and rides on Dunlop Elite rubber. The fuel tank capacity is 20.8 litres and the motorcycle weighs in at 354kg. Keyless start, ABS, leather seats and cruise control are part of the standard fare.

Here is some history of the Indian Chief.

The next motorcycle, the Indian Chief Vintage also boasts similar specifications as the Classic, however it weighs 10 kilos more and adds a quick release Lexan windshield and vintage fender badge to the list of equipment. The Indian Chief Vintage is price at Rs 29.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The third and last motorcycle, the Indian Chieftain is 4kg heavier than the Vintage is price at Rs 33 lakh. In addition to all the features in the Vintage, the Chieftain gets tyre pressure monitoring system, powered windshield, 100watt stereo system with smartphone and Bluetooth compatibility.

You can read our first ride report on the Chieftain here.

All the Indian Motorcycles are powered by the new 49-degree V-Twin Thunder Stroke 111 engine which makes 138.9Nm of torque at 2600rpm. It is the largest, most torquey production V-Twin in the market and has head fins, downfiring exhaust and parallel pushrods as reference from the past. A 6-speed manual transmission helps puts down all this power to the road.

Indian Motorcycles initially wants to sell around 20-30 units in a year in India and want to capture 10 per cent of the market share. The brand needless to say is being brought in by parent company Polaris to India. The motorcycles will be CBU with the first Indian dealer in Delhi to start deliveries by mid-March. Bangalore will also get an Indian Motorcycles dealership soon.
