Is the Lamborghini Gallardo’s replacement almost here?

Team OD Updated: November 27, 2013, 05:42 PM IST

Lamborghini has just launched a website for what they call the Hexagon project. As with most teaser websites there isn't much information. All you see is an Aventador style flip up start button. Click on the link above and you're treated to a few seconds of delicious V10 engine note.

So what do we think this is? Some reports claim it could be a hint of the production version of the Sesto Elemento concept car. We however believe that it's more likely a teaser of the upcoming replacement for the Gallardo that's going around the internet by the name of Cabrera. There's no way to be certain but we strongly believe this is what the Gallardo's replacement, that is due to be unveiled very shortly, will sound like. As for the car itself, we believe it will have typically hard edged styling reminiscent of the range topping Aventador. The engine should remain a V10 like the current Gallardo but rumours hint at 600PS, up from the 570PS in the final Squadra Corse edition of the Gallardo. The machine could also feature race car style push rod style suspension like its bigger brother but only time will tell.

Lamborghini has a reputation of never repeating a nameplate. The Countach gave way for the Diablo which was replaced by the Murcielago and finally the Aventador. By that logic it's safe to assume that the new version of Lamborghini's highly successful smaller supercar will feature a new name. Will it be called the Cabrera? We'll know soon enough
