Isuzu starts local assembly of MU-7 SUV in India
Isuzu Motors which set foot in India earlier this year has started local assembly. The first locally assembled product is the MU-7 SUV, a Fortuner rival. The current Thiruvallur facility that Isuzu uses is Hindustan Motors' and the latter contract manufactures for Isuzu. CKD units of Isuzu vehicles come to India from Thailand. Isuzu currently assembles the MU-7 and D-Max pickups in India. Prices for the BS4 MU-7 start from Rs 22.3 lakh while that of the BS3 starts at Rs 22 lakh, ex-Chennai.
HM signs agreement with Isuzu Motors
The MU-7 is powered by BSIII and BSIV compliant 3.0-litre common rail diesel engines. Isuzu is looking to open around 60 dealerships in India by 2016.
The Japanese car maker will have its own manufacturing facility in India by 2016 and has proposed an investment of nearly Rs 3000 crore in this plant. This plant is expected to have a production capacity of around 1.20 lakh units every year. A MoU signed with the AP government earlier this year wants Isuzu to set up a LCV manufacturing plant in Hyderabad.
