Land Rover Defender plug-in hybrid bookings open in India
Jaguar Land Rover has opened bookings for the Land Rover P400e, the plug-in hybrid variant of the new Land Rover Defender. Deliveries of the new version are set to begin by the first quarter of FY 2021-2022.
The Land Rover Defender P400e hybrid is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motor that makes 300PS and pairs with an electric motor putting out 143PS and fed by a 19.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. This gives the Defender plug-in a combined output of 404PS and 640 Nm. This makes it the most poweful Defender to be sold in India. The 4x4 also has a 43 km electric-only range and a WLTP-certified fuel economy figure of 30.3 kmpl. The Defender P400e has a 0 to 100 kmph time of 5.6s and reach a 209 kmph top-speed.
Aside from the fully electric mode, the Defender hybrid can also save the battery's charge to be deployed at points in the journey where it will be most effective. A parallel hybrid mode is also available that uses both the petrol engine and the electric motor together to maximise efficiency. The Defender P400e can be charged to 80 per cent capacity through a 7.r kW wallbox charger, supplied complimentary with the SUV, in two hours or via a standard socket in seven hours.
The Defender P400e will be available in the 110 LWB bodystyle only in the the SE, HSE, X-Dynamic HSE and X trim levels.
The Defender X is the top-spec variant exclusive to the hybrid. This adds contrasting black exterior trim with chrome highlights, dual tone alloys and Windsor leather upholstery. Notable features are a HUD, 14-way heated and cooled electric memory front seats, Meridian audio, panoramic sunroof and dual zone climate control. The Defender's extensive suite of off-road tech remain.
Currently, the India-spec Defender is sold with the P300 engine option. This is powered by the 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder petrol in its P300 guise. This version makes 300PS at 5,500rpm and 400Nm at 1,500-4,000rpm. Land Rover India has confirmed that the 3.0-litre inline-six petrol and the 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engines will also join the Defender India line up in the future.
Prices for the Defender currently start at Rs 73.98 lakh for the 90 and Rs 79.94 lakh for the 110.
