Jaguar's supposedly only chink in its armour â€" no AWD models has come to an end now with the introduction of the 2013 XF and XJ range. Not only this, both the XF and XJ have a range of new powertrains to complement the AWD system. A new 345PS 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine is standard for the XJ while the XF gets a 243PS 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit. Other engine options for the XJ include the 5.0-litre V8, a 517PS supercharged V8 for the Supersport and a 477PS supercharged V8 for the Supercharged trim. The XF in the meanwhile gets the 517PS supercharged V8 for the XFR and a 477PS supercharged V8. Replacing the old 6-speed transmissions are the new 8-speed ZF ones. Standard for all the engines, except the 2.0-litre turbo is an Intelligent Start/Stop system.

Except for the 5.0-litre V8 and 2.0-litre turbo engines, the new Instinctive AWD system is available on all the 2013 XFs and XJs. Maintaining a rear-drive bias with a multi-plate wet clutch, when required; the system can transfer up to 50 per cent of the torque to the front wheels. To improve traction from a standing point, the system is programmed to direct the torque to the front wheels. It also has a Winter mode, which when applied, has a front-to-rear 30:70 split.

Prices? The base XJ is available for Rs 40.76 lakh while the top of the line XJL Ultimate is priced at Rs 86.32 lakh. Prices for the XF range from Rs 26.16 lakh to Rs 45.67 lakh ex-showroom in US.
