Live updates: All-new Hyundai Santro initial impressions

Rohit Paradkar Updated: August 16, 2019, 03:20 PM IST

Hyundai is all set to launch the all-new Santro in India on October 23, just as the festive season kicks in. Hyundai received an overwhelming response for the Hyundai Naamkaran making contest that it had floated for naming this family tall-boy hatchback. More than 66 per cent entries suggested the name Santro again. The keywords for the development of the all-new Santro were consumer-centric safety features, a modern tall-boy design, new-age connectivity options and a premium and spacious cabin. We have already reported that Hyundai dealerships across the country have started accepting bookings for the hatchback at Rs 11,000.  Team OVERDRIVE is in Chennai to drive the new-gen Santro. While there is some time before the detailed first drive review of the Santro goes online, here are Rohit's initial impressions of the new-gen Hyundai Santro.

The AMT is quite good too. Under hard acceleration it’s ready to drop up to three gears. On a light foot, it moves up to higher gears rather quickly.

The manual transmission has a pleasantly light clutch, very unlike the current crop of springy clutch pedals on Hyundai cars.

The engine is super smooth like most new age Hyundai cars. A lot of attention seems have been given on drivetrain NVH reduction.

We are driving a Santro done up in Dyna Green and I have a childish excitement getting into the cabin. The reason? The seatbelts, upholstery stitching, A/C bezels and infotainment switches - all have the same vibrant green finish! It looks quite refreshing and youthful.
