Mahindra unveiled the Gusto 125 at an event today. The new Mahindra Gusto 125 gets a stickering job but looks similar to the Gusto 110 which is already on sale. The Mahindra Gusto 125 will be in showrooms shortly after the Auto Expo 2016.

The core of the Mahindra Gusto 125 is the new 124.6cc engine. This engine has a stronger crankshaft that is now offset and gets strengthened bearings, high energy HT coil, high inertia magneto and series regulato. Mahindra says that the 8.8PS10Nm M-Tech powertrain also has a heavy duty clutch, larger carb, load sensing multi curve ignition and low friction piston rings. All these, Mahindra claims, combine to give the Mahindra Gusto 125 the best overall pickup and mileage in its class. While the company hasn't officially put out a fuel efficiency number, we believe it to be close to the 60kmpl mark.

Mahindra has retained the features of the Gusto 110 in the new scooter. This means prospective customers will get a height adjustable seat, remote flip key with guide lamp, follow-me-home headlamp, LED pilot lamps, quick storage compartment and an easy front kick mechanism. The 12-inch tubeless tyres, telescopic front and monoshock rear suspension are similar to the Gusto 110 as well. The Mahindra Gusto 125 which was showcased does not have a front disc brake and instead uses 130mm drums on both ends, something we feel is a bit of a misstep on Mahindra's part.

The company claims that the Gusto 125 has been developed with inputs from Peugeot Scooters. Expect it to be offered in two variants, like the current Gusto 110 but with an estimated price increase of about Rs 6,000-7,000 when it goes on sale.
