Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake and CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake revealed
The CLA Shooting Brake is the fifth model based on the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform
Mercedes-Benz' new generation compact cars have opened doors for a new segment of customers for the brand - from new owners to current Merc owners looking at a compact second vehicle. These vehicles are based on the MFA platform and comprise of the A-Class, the B-Class, the GLA-Class and the CLA-Class. While all the A-, B- and GLA-Class are present in India in their sober guises, the CLA is only sold in the turbo-wheezing AMG variant for now. The fifth model to be based on this MFA line is the CLA Shooting Brake, which Mercedes-Benz unveiled today.
The tail lights, though similar in layout to the CLA-Class' units, are larger and extend further into the bodywork
The Shooting Brake is a new sub-class of cars that Mercedes-Benz got into with the CLS. And the CLA variant follows a similar, stylish and bling design theme. With its coupé-ish roofline and youthful styling, it certainly looks flashier than the new W205 C-Class Estate (the sedan variant of which was launched in India today). Speaking of which, it is priced very close to the C Estate and aims to be the trendier alternative by being what the CLS Shooting Brake is to the E-Class Estate. Neither of these cars is expected to come to India though.
Unveiled alongside the CLA Shooting Brake is the AMG version, which uses the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and Mercedes-AMG's 4Matic all-wheel drive mechanism
The CLA Shooting Brake will be available in all the common variants that Merc offers in Europe - all the way from the 180 petrol and 200 CDI to the range topping CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake which features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol that puts out 360PS and 450Nm and is good for a 0-100kmph sprint of 4.7 seconds - 0.1s slower than its sedan counterpart.
