New Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets Rs 21 lakh cheaper as local assembly starts in India

Mercedes Benz has announced local assembly of its flagship model, the S-Class at its plant in Chakan, Pune. This move comes with the increased demand that Mercedes is getting for the top spec S500 trim which is seeing three month waiting periods. It is the three pointed star’s most powerful luxury offering here with a 459PS petrol V8 motor under the hood. The new S-Class is available at Rs 1.36 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). At the time of its launch in January earlier this year, the S-Class which was a CBU, was priced at Rs 1.57 crore. Mercedes is also looking at bringing in the much affordable S350CDI to the Indian markets soon.

To give the owners of the S-Class a complete luxury experience, majority of who are . The manufacturer has also started Chauffeur Training Program which is a 21 module multi-lingual course for the drivers of the S-Class. This course focuses on training the drivers about the many features available in the car so that they can make optimum use of them and enhance the overall experience for themselves and the owner.

Mumbai, India: Mercedes-Benz India today announced the local production of the new S-Class from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. In line with the ‘Year of Excellence’ strategy, this strategic move will help to cater to the increasing demand for the best known Three Pointed Star in the country. The new S-Class is the most powerful luxury car to be produced in India and currently has a waiting period of approximately 3 months.

The S-Class Chauffeur Training Program

The S-Class Chauffeur Training Program is a 21 module unique multilingual course for chauffeurs of S-Class across India. The first of its kind course is specifically designed to impart user friendly modules that enable chauffeurs to drive the new S- Class with ease and offer exceptional luxury experience to its owners while on the move.



The 21 modules focus on enhancing chauffeurs soft skills, etiquette, personal development, courtesy and safety. The modules are a combination of product features and tablet based visual learning aids. Animated modules will provide an enriched learning experience with a combination of skills and behavioural aspects built in. Experiential learning with activities during the program will translate to better control and optimum use of the many features that the S-Class is stocked with. Finally, Pre-Test and Post-Tests will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of the training and the learning of the drivers.

Exteriors

The exteriors of the S-class are sure to grab your attention with its arched roofline with flowing contours, the dropping lines that descend elegantly from the front to rear and the large grille with four louvers clubbed with the three-dimensional design of the chrome trim and grille interior. The attractive design of the S-Class is further enhanced by the all LED high performance sharply contoured headlamps and the beautiful panoramic sunroof. The S-Class has a drag co-efficient of 0.24, one of the lowest for a luxury car of this caliber.



Interiors

The interiors of the S-class are sure to wrap you in luxury fit for a king - seven colour ambient lighting with a choice of five dimming options, two high-resolution TFT screens and a multi-function two-spoke steering wheel that offers all controls at one go. The dashboard is a combination of contemporary design featuring sleek horizontal lines, which along with the design wood eucalyptus trim imparts the plush touch. The COMAND online NTG5 in the S-Class comes with animated menus and 3D effects, besides an HDD to store music and videos, WLAN hotspot, SMS display, phone contact reader, radio and navigation.



The S-Class offers power packed hot stone massage function with six different programs ranging from relaxing and stimulating to an energizing effect. Occupants can choose from two intensities – low and high and the seat backrest comes with a massage mat with 14 air chambers which can be inflated or deflated via fast responding solenoid valves, developing a wave-like massage effect. The massage function can be operated via remote with durations ranging from 12 – 15 minutes.



Ride safety and other features

The new S-Class features an AIRMATIC suspension which ensures smooth ride quality. The 360 degree surround view camera along with Night View Assist supports the driver with improved visibility assuring minimum blind spots and intimating the driver of any obstacles ahead. Active Park Assist automatically steers the vehicle into parking spaces, relieving the driver of steering and braking effort. ESP with 8 airbags and PRE Safe assure driver and passenger safety, while the brake assist offers better control during emergency braking. The S-Class also comes with Adaptive Brakes with HOLD function, ASR and Hill Start Assist. The Keyless-GO package with hands free access allows hands-off, fully automatic opening and closing of the boot lid. The new S-Class also comes with a Chauffeur package, which creates up to 77mm more rear leg room on the front passenger side with electrically extending footrest and has easy adjust luxury head restrains for driver and passenger.



The stylishly matched combination of high-quality features also meets the highest standards of comfort, quality and design. Keeping this in mind Mercedes–Benz will offer a unique chauffeur training program. This will involve comprehensive training for chauffeurs on the S-Class technology and lifestyle features so that they can offer complete luxury driving experience to S-Class owners.
