New Outlander plug-in hybrid EV to be shown in 2012 Paris Motor Show
Mitsubishi will be rolling out their new Outlander plug-in hybrid EV at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. This hybrid vehicle will share its architecture with the new Outlander's Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). The Outlander EV makes use of a front and rear electric motors plus front traction/generator petrol engine. This translates into three driving modes 1) Pure: both the electric motors will be in action 2) Series: the electric motors will be supported by the generator and 3) Parallel: the ICE engine will be supported by the electric motors. It also claims to be the first 4x4 production electric vehicle.
The Outlander EV lays claim to a driving range of 800km and CO2 emissions below 50g/km. While the Outlander plug-in hybrid EV will trickle into showrooms by 2013, the Outlander ICE will be launched in Europe in fall of 2012.
