Making really fast supercars is a territory dominated by the likes of Bugatti and Hennessey. If that is what you have always known, make space for a new entrant in this club. Tesla Inc has showcased the new-gen version of the company's first car, the Roadster, that was driven out of the recently unveiled electric semi truck. Traditionally, a roadster is a two-seater convertible but that's not the case with the Tesla Roadster that can seat four and comes with a removable glass roof.

The 2020 Tesla Roadster gets a new age design and doesn't remind of the first-gen offering

The new-gen Tesla Roadster, thankfully, does not remind of the first model and looks like it spent most of its development time in a wind tunnel. The front gets sharp crease lines along with sleek lights. The side does bear some resemblance to the Mclaren P1 but that's what aerodynamic testing does to a design. Although, our favourite bit about the design has to be the rear for there is a compact spoiler that jets out at higher speeds. The Tesla Roadster showcased is still not a production car and that can be seen with the minimalistic cabin and a futuristic steering straight out of a science fiction movie.

That is a controller of the 2020 Tesla Roadster. No, it does't make the Roadster fly into space

While what powers the new Tesla Roadster has still not been specified by the company, the claimed performance numbers are out. The Tesla Roadster can reach 60mph (96.56kmph) in 1.9 seconds, making it the fastest production car (as and when it goes into one) ever. Further, it will touch 100mph (160.93kmph) in 4.2 seconds, claims the company. The top speed claim for the Roadster is over 250mph (402kmph). The all-wheel drive electric powertrain generates as much as 10,000Nm of torque. The 200kWh battery pack delivers a full driving range of 620 miles that is close to 998km at one full charge.

The electronically operated spoiler and the diffuser all work in tandem to reach the claimed top speed of more than 250 mph

The Tesla website lists the base price of the Roadster as $ 2,00,000 with a starting reservation of $ 50,000. The first 1,000 units will be reserved for founder series at $2,50,000 wherein prospective interests will reserve theirs and crowd-source the development of the sedan. While the website does mention reserve now, the Tesla Roadster will see its production rollout in sometime in 2020, and that is what Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Inc believes in. Going by the company's past records when it comes to meeting its own deadlines, lets hope the Tesla Roadster indeed arrives in the next two years.
