New Volkswagen Beetle launched in India at 28.73 lakh
Volkswagen launched the latest version of its iconic hatchback Beetle in India on December 18, 2015 at Rs 28.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Dubbed as the 21st Century Beetle, the car now gets modern features like a Panaromic tilt/slide sunroof, Bi-xenon headlamps with DRL's, paddle shift, 3-point seat belts in front with belt tensioner, Hill hold control and cruise control.
The Pre-World War II model which has been in production since 1938 is considered to be the most iconic car of its time, originally conceived to be an affordable and cheap mode of transport for the masses the Volkswagen Beetle is now a more premium product aimed towards the higher sector of society.
The model was redeveloped by the company in 1998 to resemble the original beetle only in name and appearance and was launched in India in 2009, since then the model had seen no upgrades until now.
The 21st Century Beetle comes with a 1.4 litre, Turbocharged direct injection petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox which puts out a max. output of 150PS at 5,000 to 6,000rpm and a torque of 250Nm at 1,500 to 3,500rpm. Prices start from Rs 28.73 lakh (ex Mumbai) and it will be sold through select dealerships across India.
