Nissan announces surprise launch of Rs 3.5 lakh Micra Active hatchback

Along with the launch of its new and improved Micra series, including an automatic petrol version, Nissan today launched a 'sporty' Micra Active, starting at Rs 3.50 lakh. Based on the previous generation Micra, the Active series was launched with the aim of tapping a segment lower than the facelifted Micra models, which are priced at Rs 4.79 lakh and above.

Nissan claims that the Micra Active benefits from its highly competitive price, lower maintenance costs and superior fuel efficiency of 19.49 kmpl, all without a compromise in the driving experience. Nissan says that the Micra Active is targeted at first-time car buyers looking for an economical drive.

The Active is powered by the 1.2-litre petrol engine developing 68PS at 5000rpm and 104Nm at 4000rpm. Overall vehicle weight has been reduced by about 30kg compared with the outgoing Micra base variant.

The Micra Active will be available in four trim levels XE, XL, XV and XV Safety pack. XV Safety comes loaded with safety features such as dual airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, immobiliser, speed-sensing door locks and central locking. The Micra Active range will come in six different colours to choose from: turquoise blue (new), blade silver, storm white, onyx black, aqua green and brick red.

The nationwide sales for the new Nissan Micra and Micra Active, built on Nissan's 'V' platform, will commence from July 03, 2013.

Announcing the sales and marketing strategy for the new Micra range, Nitish Tipnis, Director Sales & Marketing, Hover Automotive India, said, "The launch of the new Nissan Micra and Micra Active marks Nissan's commitment towards the Indian market. Our strategy in launching New Micra and Micra Active is to cut across the entire hatchback segment and broad base our offering to a wider target audience."
