Nissan India had revealed last month that it was aiming to double its market share in the country by 2020. The carmaker had also stated that it will be launching one new product every year from 2018. Now, it is being reported that Nissan is planning to launch eight new car models in India by 2021. The company has also revised its product strategy in a bid to increase sales and market share.
According to a report, the new models that will be launched in India will be from Nissan’s global product portfolio. During an interview, Christian Mardrus, chairman for Africa, Middle East and India at Nissan said, “Maybe we have not differentiated enough in the past. The strategy now is more common platforms, common modules and common technology. No more cross-badging now as we may have done in the past. In the future we want to develop more redi-Go and Kwid stories.”
Guillaume Sicard, president of Nissan India has stated that most of the new launches are likely to be crossovers and SUVs. Considering the success of the Renault Kwid and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Nissan India might have decided to focus on those particular body styles.
Last month, Sicard had said that the carmaker will introduce its global models like the X-trail Hybrid in India from 2018. The Nissan Terrano AMT has just been launched while the 2017 Nissan GT-R is expected to be launched next month.
Car manufacturers can no longer afford to ignore India as it is expected to become the third largest car market globally by 2020. With an eye on increasing market share, most companies have already revised their India strategy towards introducing more products. We have already revealed that Volkswagen is planning to launch four new models in India by 2017 while Maruti Suzuki will be introducing 15 new models by 2020.
